Continuing Education:
Certification as a Mental Health Counselor requires accredited continuing education on a bi-annual basis. These requirements are documented by the WA State Department of Health.
I most recently received continuing education in Ethics and Legal Requirements; Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy; Hospice and End of Life Care; Analytical Psychology and Buddhism.
Supervision and Personal Psychotherapy:
I take it as an ethical obligation to do my own personal work in order to do the work as a psychotherapist. Too often, therapists neglect their own therapy. A therapist needs to walk the talk of therapy. I can only ask my clients to do the courageous work of therapy if I’ve done the same for myself. In that way I know that the path may be truly challenging but also richly rewarding.
In regards to this ethical prerogative, I have engaged in well over ten years of therapy, both personal and in group settings.
In addition, I have a supervising therapist regularly available for consultation on any challenging issues that may inevitably arise in this work. Likewise, I have a history of being a member of a therapist’s consultation group.
Professional Associations:
I am member of Washington Mental Health Counselor Association
Volunteer Work:
I have facilitated a Recovery Support group combining meditation and traditional 12 Steps approach.
